DC Citizen Corps
DC Citizen Corps (DCCC) is a component of USA Freedom Corps, a White House initiative to foster a culture of citizenship, service, and responsibility and to help all Americans answer the President's Call to Service. Serve DC is the designated coordinator of the DC Citizen Corps for the District of Columbia.
DC Citizen Corps creates opportunities for individuals to help their communities prepare for and respond to emergencies. It brings together local leaders, citizen volunteers and the network of first responder organizations, such as fire departments, police departments and emergency medical personnel. The mission of the DC Citizen Corps is to have all citizens participate in making their communities safer, stronger and better prepared to prevent and handle threats of terrorism, crime, and disasters of all kinds.
In response to the President's initiative, the Citizen Corps of the District of Columbia coordinates with volunteer groups such as the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, the Metropolitan Police Department, the Medical Society of DC and Inner City Training and Services to achieve its goals. The DC Citizen Corps programs include the Community Emergency Response Team, the Neighborhood Watch Program, Volunteers in Police Service, Fire Corps and the Medical Reserve Corps. Citizen Corps also partners with national organizations that advance the first responder-citizen preparedness mission as well as non-profit organizations and other federal departments and agencies that provide resources and materials for public education, training, or volunteer service opportunities.
